Lifestyle Medicine is the use of evidence-based therapeutic interventions by trained health care providers. The use of these interventions as a primary mode of treatment is consistent with the current practice of preventing premature deaths due to non-communicable diseases that can be addressed and treated by lifestyle modifications that include replacing unhealthy behaviors with positive ones.
Trained and certified health care providers in this specialty will use interventions such as whole food, plant-based diet, health and wellness coaching, physical activity, emotional health and mindfulness, and avoiding risky behaviors to prevent, treat, and often reverse chronic disease.
Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine include nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress resiliency, addiction, and social connectedness.
