Carl Lawson, PhD, MPH, MA joined ÎÞÂëȺ½» of Medicine and Science in 2018 as the university's Director of Interprofessional Global Health. Dr. Lawson has since taken on the additional role of the Chicago Medical School's (CMS) Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). As Director for DEI Dr. Lawson leads programmatic activities designed to increase CMS community (faculty, students, and staff) knowledge of DEI in academic medicine, leverages resources to contribute to the success and well-being of students from racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in medicine, and works to make CMS a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution. A CMS Associate Professor, Dr. Lawson actively engages students on subject matter including global health, health disparities and healthcare inequities, and structural racism in medicine.

As the Director of Interprofessional Global Health he applies his deep and varied global health background, developed within a diverse array of professional and cultural contexts in multiple countries, to strengthen RFUMS global health educational programs. He is responsible for the development of new partnerships, promoting student safety, and the continued development of a robust array of interprofessional global health offerings.

Dr. Lawson earned his BS in Biology and Anthropology-Zoology from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, his Master of Public Health in International Health & Development from the Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine, a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Kent - Brussels School of International Relations in Belgium, and a PhD in Peace & Conflict Studies from the United Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica.
