Research Assistant Professor

Dr. Kelly Oh received her PhD from the department of Cellular and Molecular Biology, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, SUNY at Buffalo in 1999.  She was a post-doctoral researcher at University of California at San Francisco from 1999 to 2007 and a senior scientist at Applied Biomics (Hayward, CA) from 2007 to 2008.  She joined the ÎÞÂëȺ½» faculty in 2008 as a Research Assistant Professor of Cell Biology and Anatomy.

Research

The primary pathogenic event in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is muscle cell necrosis, which is followed by regenerative responses. We found that the loss of dystrophin in C. elegans causes a progressive muscle cell death as in mammals, and that the muscle cell death can be prevented by modulating signaling pathways. Currently, we are investigating roles of IGF-1 signaling and stress responses in dystrophic muscle cells.
