The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) values an inclusive environment with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty to educate future scientists and other biomedical professionals and thereby best serve the nation’s research needs. Recruitment, development, retention, and advancement of diverse individuals, especially those under-represented in biomedical research, add value to biomedical education and research. These inclusive practices improve competency of diversity, broaden problem-solving capabilities of professional teams, and empower students to address gaps of knowledge in biomedical research. This statement is dynamic, reflecting our understanding of the evolving national and biomedical research environment.
The Council of Graduate Schools (CGS), of which SGPS is a participating member, has also produced a statement on the importance of diversity, equity, access, and inclusion in graduate education. SGPS fully supports the principles of the CGS.
