The university is located close to Lake Michigan, 38 miles north of the City of Chicago. The Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, including its Veterans’ Administration Hospital, is immediately next to our university campus. Our neighbors also include the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and Abbott Laboratories, Abbvie, and Takeda pharmaceutical companies.
Our location in a northern suburb of Chicago provides you with a multitude of varied activities. Chicago itself is the third largest city in the country and offers very diverse and exceptional cuisine. The city is home to a number of the finest museums in the world, including the Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Contemporary Art. The Museum of Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and Field Museum of Natural History comprise the museum campus. Professional sports teams in all of the major sports play in famous venues such as Wrigley Field and Soldier Field. Opportunities to enjoy music range from the famed Lyric Opera to Lollapalooza. Chicago is home to Second City Comedy and much more.
Outdoor activities are also plentiful. Our location allows you easy access to local and state parks as well as Lake Michigan. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails are found throughout open lands and forest preserves. Many consider autumn their favorite season.
A variety of housing options are available to you as graduate students at RFU. The university offers apartment-style, on-campus housing. These options include private one bedroom, family, and shared two bedroom apartments. Our Office of Student Housing assists in identifying and accommodating special needs and housing requests. Independent apartment accommodations are also located next to the university. Many other apartment housing options are available in the surrounding suburban communities and in the city of Chicago. The Office of Student Housing also provides information regarding specific off-campus housing options. Public transportation provides an easy commute for students who live in the Chicago metropolitan area.
